Description:

Giuseppe Vasi (1710-1782) was an Italian panoramist, engraver and architect. Between 1746 and 1761 Vasi published ten volumes with 240 engravings of the city of Rome. This prints can be considered a final inventory of the baroque period which was in its final period. The objective of Vasi was to represent Rome in its own time. An architect by background, he was able to represent Rome's monuments in all of their details. This view of Rome, taken from the Gianicolo hills, with dedication to Carlo III king of Spain, is probably one of the most fascinating panoramas of the ethernal city.

Engraving Information:

This artistic reproduction of a vintage map was made using modern graphic procedures, but obtaining the results found in the antique copperplate engraving technique, as one can easily find out by lightly rubbing his/her finger on the map. This map, which is an exact reproduction of the original antique, is printed on cotton paper panels which are glued and mounted on a cotton cloth background "a stacchi" (slightly separated from each other), in order to allow for folding and easier transport. Finally, map is water-colored by hand making it a truly unique piece, worthy of the original old print.
