Description:

Attilio Zuccagni - Orlandini ( 1784 - 1872 ) was an Italian cartographer and geographer. Although he graduated in Medicine at the University of Pisa, following his passion developed during numerous trips in Italy and abroad, he dedicated his life to the study of cartography and geography. His main opus, published between 1833 and 1845, was the "Corografia fisica, storica e statistica dell'Italia e delle sue isole", composed by twelve volumes and an atlas in two volumes and numerous geographic maps. This artistic view of Siracusa is based on an 1845 view of Siracusa included in the first volume of the Zuccagni's Atlas. In the field of mapmaking, prospective views or panoramas of cities hold a reserved but not secundary place in the field of artistic map-making production. Most such views of cities of the 18th century are characterized by a title decoration with the name of the city that appears written on parchment paper. The representation reveals sharp outlines and masterfully drawn perspective.
