Description:

Giovanni Antonio Bartolomeo Rizzi Zannoni (Padua, 2 september 1736-Naples, 20 May 1814) was an Italian geographer and cartographer. Studied at the University of Padua and, after extensive travelling in Italy and abroad, started his career as a cartographer in Poland in 1753, where he had been called by king August III. After stints in Sweden, Denmark and Prussia, he lived for 20 years in Paris before returning to Padua in 1776 where he worked, for almost 30 years, on his famous "Atlante Geografico del Regno di Napoli" in 32 large sheets that he completed in 1812 shortly before his death. This particular map has a large decorative cartouche on the lower right side.

Engraving Information:

This artistic reproduction of a vintage map was made using modern graphic procedures, but obtaining the results found in the antique copperplate engraving technique, as one can easily find out by lightly rubbing his/her finger on the map. This map, which is an exact reproduction of the original antique, is printed on cotton paper panels which are glued and mounted on a cotton cloth background "a stacchi" (slightly separated from each other), in order to allow for folding and easier transport. Finally, map is water-colored by hand making it a truly unique piece, worthy of the original old print.
