Pierre Mortier  1661-1711) was a French cartographer, engraver, and print seller active in Amsterdam during the later 17th and early 18th centuries.  Thanks to his French heritage he could access the work of contemporary French cartographers such as Sanson and De Wit and he could therefore leverage the sophisticated Dutch printing establishment to issue higher quality, embellished editions of contemporary French maps. This beautiful plant of the city of "Verona" is characterized by the extensive numbered legend in the lower portion and the city's coat of arms on the  right upper portion of the map

Engraving Information:

This artistic reproduction of a vintage map was made using modern graphic procedures, but obtaining the results found in the antique copperplate engraving technique, as one can easily find out by lightly rubbing his/her finger on the map. This map, which is an exact reproduction of the original antique, is printed on cotton paper panels which are glued and mounted on a cotton cloth background "a stacchi" (slightly separated from each other), in order to allow for folding and easier transport. Finally, map is water-colored by hand making it a truly unique piece, worthy of the original old print.
